The Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced, and C2 Proficiency qualifications are recognised globally by employers, colleges and universities. The Language Centre offers preparation courses for these exams.



If you are interested in improving your English to a high level and gaining a Cambridge certificate follow the Cambridge Exam Qualification courses.

For over 25 years, the Language Centre’s Cambridge English courses have provided expert guidance and personalized support to more than 1,000 UM employees, students and external clients. Our specialized preparation programmes have been developed to help you improve your English language proficiency and reach your personal and professional goals.  These courses aim to equip you with the practical language skills and exam techniques required to achieve a globally recognized Cambridge English Qualification.

Cambridge English courses primarily focus on improving your English one complete level on the CEFR scale. The end of course exam is optional, therefore, the exam fees are not included in the course price. However, we do encourage exam participation to obtain an internationally recognized Cambridge certificate.

Certificate and ECTS credits

Depending on Faculty policies the following credits may be awarded:

  • Cambridge English: B2 First  3,5 ECTS.
  • Cambridge English: C1 Advanced 4 ECTS.
  • Cambridge English: C2 Proficiency 4,5 ECTS.

Please note that primarily the Language Centre Cambridge courses aim to improve the participants’ level of English to enable them to pass the optional examination at the end of the course.  We encourage everyone to take the exam in order to gain an internationally recognized certificate from Cambridge English. However, as the exam is optional the Cambridge examination fees are not included in the price of the course.

Cambridge B2: First

B2 First: Proves you can handle everyday situations when working in English speaking environments. You’ll be able to understand the main ideas in a complex text, you can produce clear and detailed prose and you’ll be able to interact with native speakers with a degree of fluency and spontaneity.

Target Audience: Students, professionals, or anyone aiming to demonstrate an upper intermediate level of English for work, study, or immigration purposes.

Benefits: Shows you can handle everyday situations in English, understand the main points in written texts, and write basic texts clearly.  It's often required for university admissions in some countries and can enhance career prospects in different administrative departments.

Cambridge C1: Advanced

C1 Advanced: Shows you have an advanced level of fluency and are able to communicate effectively in complex situations.  You will be able to understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognize implicit meaning. Ideas will be expressed fluently and language used flexibly for social, academic and professional purposes.

German B1

German B1 is for people with a basic knowledge of German and people who have completed the previous module. In these modules, you will further develop your vocabulary and your understanding of German grammar and will address more complicated topics of conversation.


In this module you will:

  • learn to talk about interesting and relevant topics from the fields of study and work​;
  • talk about the past and future;
  • lead discussions and give a presentation about a current topic;
  • read articles and listen to news;
  • describe travel experiences, living abroad, advantages and disadvantages;
  • talk about cities in Germany (history) and your hometown;
  • express your opinion and motivate;
  • learn how to connect ideas;
  • writing letters and emails (formal , informal);

Cambridge C2: Proficiency

C2 Proficiency:  Demonstrates mastery of the English language in the most demanding professional roles and academic programs.  It demonstrates the user has the fluency and sophistication of a near-native speaker and is in fact the highest-level qualification for non-native speakers of English.  Successful completion of this course and the final examination provides proof to employers and educational establishments that you are highly competent in using all aspects of the English language.

The German B2plus course is suitable for participants who have already reached the B2 level. German B2plus is primarily a discussion forum in which you must play an active role.


During this module, you will learn to:

Dutch biweekly B2

To participate in this B2 course an intake is required when you do not have a of B2minus certificate.

In this course, you will improve your ability to:

  • give a clear and well-structured presentation, as well as spontaneously answer questions;
  • use grammar correctly;
  • make summaries;
  • pay attention to intercultural aspects: discuss typical subjects for your country or for a country with which you are familiar.

After B2minus and B2 you are advanced enough to take the State Exam Dutch as a Second Language, programme II, if you like.

French C1

This course further improves speaking and listening skills, with special attention to professional purposes.

A lot of emphasis is put on themes and vocabulary that relate to study or work. You will also work on skills that are useful for your career, such as presenting, discussing and participating in meetings. 

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • discuss typical subjects concerning your country or a country you are familiar with and compare it to the French speaking countries realities.
  • clearly express and explain your ideas and opinions;
  • give a clear and well structured presentation, as well as spontaneously answer questions;
  • use grammar correctly;
